New Home Before and After Series {Guest Room}

Happy Sunny Tuesday!  I love to see the sun during Michigan winters!  Today I want to feature our guest room before and afters.  This is the third bedroom upstairs that didn’t get claimed by my kids, so it became the guest room.

IMG_2146I was told all three bedrooms had the original carpet…. 17 years old, very yucky!   It all had to be ripped out and we replaced all upstairs bedrooms with hardwood laminate, again a Lowes product.  I chose the Pergo Laminate in Richland Hickory, it has a bit of distressing in the planks and it passed the “key” test, so this was the floor!  (the “key” test is where you literally take the end of your car key and try to scratch the heck out of the small floor samples only that you can purchase for a dollar at Lowes.  If it doesn’t show the scratches, you are good to go!)

IMG_2147  IMG_2148That glass door was originally on the next room over, which is now Ethan’s room.  I figured he wouldn’t want that as his door for privacy issues, so we switched doors, and it fits nicely in this room.  It received  a coat of black paint and I put bamboo blinds on the back for privacy.

So here we go, this is what our cozy guest room looks like today….

I found the cute minnow basket light, ($25) blanket ladder ($38) and small bedside pedestal table ($42) at my favorite Antique/Consignment Shop, Kalamazoo Kitty.  Did you know Kitty also teaches chalk paint and distressing classes at her West Main store. They are so much fun!  You can check out her website if you are local, be sure to stop in!  And if you are out of town, it is worth the trip in to see her shop at both locations!

I painted the canvas on the wall with leftover chalk paint and gold spray paint.  It was a canvas from our old home that didn’t quite work in this house, and I was tired of the floral print it was prior.  SO I took some paint and created this abstract chevron thing.   I should do a DIY post on this later in the future!

I hope you like the reveal!  Check back to see more of our home next week!
