DIY T-Shirt for July 4th

So I love crafting and making things, and one thing I love to do is cut up basic  t-shirts to give them more style. I started to do this a few years ago with my daughter’s boring boxy dance company t shirts. Today I want to show you a simple DIY t-shirt that I created so you can wear on America’s birthday!

I found a few inexpensive July 4th t-shirts at our local super grocery store, Meijers. The shirts I bought are actually mens t-shirts, I liked the design on them better than the women t-shirts. This is so much fun and easy to do! For this particular design, get a shirt your in your size or go up one size. You want it to fit fairly well in the back since we are making it into a halter top.

Here are the steps: start with the basic t-shirt.

Next you will chalk out cut lines where I have marked.

Cut along those lines.

Now flip over the t-shirt and chalk the back like this.

And again, cut the lines.  Flip back over and pull the strips upward.  These will be the halter neck ties.

Now cut your ties into 3 strips.

And then give the the ties a good stretch.

Now braid them and tie the ends in cute little knots.

Now your shirt is finished!   I plan on wearing my shirt with dollar store red silver and blue beaded necklaces with my teens – (I think they will still wear the beads- for the parade anyway!)

Try this t-shirt DIY, it will be fun!  If you have older kids, they will love this DIY too!   Inspire them to get creative in designing their own shirt!

Have a wonderful Fourth of July with your families!

xo,

Amber
